who we are

Hello, I'm Sandra, the owner of böörds AG. I am very passionate about design and sustainable Swiss made products.

In July 2018, I founded my start-up together with Christian. The company böörds AG became known with the TÜTENHÜTER, as a intelligent closure system for bags. The range complements the multifunctional TUBESCHRUBERI, which can screw tubes and hold bags. The company böörds AG stands for Swiss Made - all products are manufactured with great care in Switzerland. They are assembled by people with disabilities at the Arwole Foundation. With its products, böörds helps to avoid food waste and therefore makes a valuable contribution towards sustainability.

Now we are letting our young company grow wings. I am looking forward to an exciting and challenging time.

The dream of becoming self-employed developed very early on in my childhood. Thanks to my apprenticeship as a florist, I am very familiar with the effects and importance of colors, beautiful designs and nice shapes. After further intense training as a sales manager and gaining lots of valuable experience in the professional world, I have been self-employed with böörds since summer 2019. I recharge my batteries by dancing, attending cultural events, meditating and enjoying the beauty of nature.

why böörds?

Birds symbolise freedom, boundlessness and independence. This should also be and remain the credo of the böörds AG. Independent, nose to the wind, feet firmly on the ground, reliable, serious, courageous and unique. The two "ÖÖ" stand for partnership: at eye level with our customers - always acting in partnership and honesty are our main focus. But we also like to take things in good humour from time to time.

Sandra Gschwend and Christian Diethelm founded the company böörds AG in July 2018. After an adventurous trip through Thailand, they jointly created the Tütenhüter, an intelligent closure system for bags. In 2021, they added their "sweetheart", the multifunctional Tubeschruberi, which can screw tubes and cap bags. The products and packaging are manufactured with conviction in Switzerland and assembled by people with disabilities at the Arwole Foundation.

In recent years, the creative start-up böörds has blossomed into an established young company. Today, over 450 shops sell the popular Tütenhüter, the Tubeschruberi and the fancy special editions. More than 30,000 people have already ordered products from the böörds online shop. Countless co-operations with brands such as A. Vogel, Bio Familia, Swiss Post and Orell Füssli have also contributed to böörds's huge success.

Christian decided to leave böörds in spring of 2024. Sandra then took over his shareholding in August 2024. The two parted on good terms and look back on a successful and unforgettable time together.

It's that simple

Product development - spring 2018

Together with friends, we looked for a suitable name for the closure system. What looks so funny and uncomplicated here over a beer - was in fact just that. The TÜTENHÜTER was born.

the thailand trip - and the journey from idea to bag holder - January 2018

It all began as strangers travelling together. Having met on a dating platform, Chrigi and Sandra quickly realised: "This person is so uncomplicated, open and down-to-earth that I can travel with her for three weeks. Having never met before, they met for lunch to discuss the destinations and to see if the chemistry was really right for travelling in a campervan in a confined space. The expectations were more than fulfilled, the other person was, as hoped, spontaneous, keen to travel, intrepid, had the necessary amount of courage and was super uncomplicated and likeable. After two months of radio silence, the second date took place at Zurich Airport, shortly before departure to Thailand. Chrigi took care of the flight tickets in advance and Sandra hired a small minibus, which was waiting for the two travellers in Bangkok. On the flight to Asia, which took several hours, there was plenty of time to get to know each other and chat about the past, experiences, dreams, visions and goals. Before arriving in Bangkok, the two had already realised that they had similar plans for the future. With a rucksack full of marketing and sales experience, coupled with down-to-earth training as a carpenter and florist respectively, they both wanted more. To design their own product, develop it further, find a manufacturer and then sell it. They were both passionate about it. Chrigi had bought a flipchart for his home so that he could put everything down on paper as soon as he had an idea. How cool it must be to realise your own visions - Chrigi revelled in the start-up feeling. Sandra has been to markets and shops with her eyes wide open on past trips through Asia so as not to miss any innovations. It should be something that nobody in Switzerland has yet, but that everyone can use - she always emphasised.

The journey was simply incredible. After the first 24 hours of travelling together, we both knew that we would be friends for life. The fact that a very patented bag fastening system crossed their path by chance was both incredible and magical. That's it, for women and men, for every household, for singles, for families, for couples, for senior citizens, for teenagers, for food, for cosmetics, for pet food - everyone can use it. Off to the nearest market to buy a notebook and writing materials. On the journey through the beautiful north of Thailand towards Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and Myanmar as the destination, the respective co-driver then used the time to make notes and sketches. 100% Switzerland it is to become. Production from A-Z in Switzerland. The colours will be unisex and the product will first be sold via the online shop, at markets and trade fairs and, if the product is well received by customers, shops will be sought for distribution. High-quality household goods shops, gift shops and comestibles shops. Online shops with cool, exquisite products, that's it.

The vision was clear. It was also clear that there was a lot of work waiting for them at home. Clarifications together with the patent attorney, checking availability in Switzerland, writing a business plan, evaluating manufacturers, designing a closure stick, clarifying financing, producing prototypes, designing packaging, creating logos, finding a name for the product, founding a company and so on. The only thing that was already clear in Thailand was that the company would be called "böörds". Birds for the freedom and independence of self-employment, birds for the wings that a start-up needs to be able to fly properly. Birds for the crazy, courageous, adventurous side of Sandra and Christian. And last but not least, through the inspiration of Peter Reber and his songs "e Vögel ohni Flügel" and "dChinder vom Kolumbus" and Gölä's hit "uf u dervo", which the two of them listened to up and down on the coach. Two ÖÖ for the duality of the two. Because it quickly became clear. They run this company as equals and on an equal footing.

Oh yes, I'm sure you'd like to know whether Chrigi and Sandra became lovers. Yes, they did - two days before travelling home to Bangkok, they really, really clicked. Friends for life became true love and later friendship again. This is how the Tütenhüter was born and set off on its journey together with Chrigi and Sandra.
